SIMONETTA CAVALLI
ABOUT ME
Originally from Italy, the mezzosoprano Simonetta Cavalli studied music in her hometown of Bologna before training in singing at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of music in Venice where she graduated brilliantly.
Simonetta Cavalli, a finalist and winner of several National and International Opera and Chamber Music Competitions, made her debut at a very young age at the G. Verdi Theatre in Trieste with Mozart’s Opera “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) in the role of Dritte Knabe; then, after her debut, she performed several roles (Cherubino, Dorabella, Valletto, Amore etc…) and sang in numerous theatres, in Italy and abroad (Teatro Regio of Parma, G. Donizetti of Bergamo, G. Verdi of Trieste, Comunale of Bologna, Deutsche Oper of Berlin, Volkshaus Basel, Auditorium in Toronto, New York etc…), conducted by renowned conductors of the calibre of Alberto Zedda, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Fabrizio M. Carminati, Federico M. Sardelli, Jean Claude Malgoire, Güther Neuhold, Wolfgang Bozic, Arnold Östmann, Alain Guingall etc…
Then she enriches her career with the experience of illustrious professionals such as: tenor Alain Charles Billard and mezzo Brigitte Fassbänder, for the repertoire of Chamber Music and Opera; she participates in Master Classes with: Luciana Serra, Margaret G. Baker, Sherman Low, Beniamino Prior and Claudio Desderi. She also works as soloist with ensembles with whom she participates in several tours in Europe, Canada and the United States. Defined by critics as a” Mozart mezzosoprano”, she also explores the Baroque repertoire, the Italian and French Belcanto and the Operetta as well, up to the Modern Opera, where she has leadingroles in the absolute premiere (for Italian composers: Franco Mannino, Bruno M. Moretti, Giorgio Klauer etc.)
She has recorded for: R.A.I. Italian Radio Television, Tactus Record, West Deutscher Runfunk – C.P.O. (Arsilda Regina di Ponto by Vivaldi, where she sings as a protagonist), Classic Voice and Foné (thanks to which she was the performer of one of the first “CD Superaudio” in the current global market).
Finally, she recorded a CD with other international musicians and singers, entitled The Human Voice, the result of the collaboration of the Mezzo with an international medical team that deals with studies and research on the value of the human voice in its various aspects. Simonetta Cavalli has given many recitals and she performs in Concert for chamber, sacred, opera and contemporary music at the international level.
The latest engagements: in concert in Paris, Lyon, Sarajevo, Strasbourg, Luzern and Stockholm either as soloist or in Ensemble, with the repertoire of Bach, Monteverdi, Mozart and Beethoven. For the Opera she performed the roles of: Ida – Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss, Il Paggio – Rigoletto by G. Verdi and the 2nd Genie in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart at the Théâtre G. Verdi de Trieste under the direction of : G. Gelmetti, F. M. Carminati and P. Halfter Caro. Simonetta Cavalli was a permanent choir and soloist artist at the G.Verdi Theatre in Trieste – Italy – (there have been various occasions for opera and symphonic music tours: in Japan, Oman, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia etc…) until 2018.
Since 2019, after her move from Italy, she is currently engaged at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg – France, for the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons, where she has also been approached for the role ”Drossel” in W. Braunfels’ -Les Oiseaux- for January and February 2022.
During 2022 she is invited by the Luzerner Theater in Switzerland to perform Verdi’s Macbeth and Tchaikowsky’s Onegin; she will then be choir artist and soloist in Dusapin’s opera Perelà and furthermore she is invited by Freiburger Theater in Germany to perform Macbeth again. (During autumn 2022 she was invited to the Opernhaus in Zurich to perform Nabucco and for the St. Gallen Theater in Switzerland for next season 2023 but had to refuse due to permanent displacement to Sweden – Stockholm).
Engagements 2023 : She moved to Stockholm – Sweden. August – she won the audition for extra-choir artist of the Gothenburg Opera. September – participates as a soloist in the project entitled Pop-Opera, in Stockholm: a collaboration between the Italian Ministry of Tourism and Sweden, to promote opera as a World Human Heritage UNESCO.
